I’ve never really wandered from this path. Design found me early and I just kept following it. What keeps me here isn’t just the craft itself, it’s everything that feeds it. Thrill finds me in atypical color palettes, in the history of 1960s psychedelic band poster design, in a boldly textured garment, in the vocal powerhouse that is Brittany Howard, in the latest uniquely-shot A24 film…culture is the raw material. Design is just how I process it.
I don’t think I’ll ever stop being a student of this. Every project teaches me something I didn’t know I needed to learn, and I’ve made peace with the fact that I probably never will feel fully “arrived.” That’s not a bad thing. The moment you think you’ve figured it all out is probably the moment you stop paying attention, which is most of the job.
At the end of the day, I hope to make things that feel considered. Work that comes from caring about the people and the culture it’s speaking to. Everyone’s chasing some way to understand the world around them. Design is my attempt to get there.
